Group
Drops Boycott of Agriprocessor Products
Posted 10 July 2008
An organization of American Orthodox Jews has dropped its call for a
boycott of Agriprocessors Inc. meat products after learning the
Postville company is taking steps to fix its immigration and employment
issues.
Last month, the group had called for the boycott of any
businesses that sold the company's meat following allegations of unsafe
conditions and reports of low-paid workers being abused by supervisors.
The claims have been made public after immigrations officials raided
the plant back in May and arrested nearly 400 workers from the
community.
Leaders with the organization pointed to Agriprocessors' hiring of a
former federal prosecutor and its launch of a compliance office shows
the company intends to take "significant steps" toward resolving its
issues.
